Pitching in with everything we had, we could overcome just about anything in these trying times. NO Gas? NO problem. Sharing rides to work was how many friendships - and marriages - were made. No car? No problem. Horses, mules and Bobby McMurray’s Goat Cart served as transportation for kids and teens. Everyone did their fair share by planting Victory Gardens and neighbors could barter with other neighbors for items they did not grow themselves. The ladies of Franklin County helped their flyboys save on nylon for their parachutes by drawing lines down the backs of their legs. (What we won’t do for our boys!). The seriousness of the day was never far away, as the original Band of Brothers trained at nearby Camp Toccoa. It was a time when we all banded together, brothers, sisters, friends & neighbors, because times were too uncertain not to. A time when the biggest strength we shared was faith & the best medicine we took was laughter. Somewhat like the times we're experiencing now.
