The SCAD Museum of Art is a contemporary art and design museum conceived and designed expressly to enrich the educational milieu of SCAD students and professors, and to attract and delight visitors from around the world.
The existing museum was housed in an 1856 Greek Revival structure that was once home to the headquarters of the Central of Georgia Railway.
The museum hosts a series of impressive exhibitions that include media and subject matter ranging from painting and photography to fashion and textile art. These exhibitions attract visitors from different backgrounds and with varied interests. Many visitors to the SCAD Museum of Art are SCAD students, artists in the making who draw inspiration from the vast collections as they create their own work.
The permanent collection includes works by such renowned artists as Van Dyck, de Kooning, Picasso, Warhol and Bearden. There are also revolving exhibits.
