Augusta Historic Sites Trip
Augusta is a city filled with history. During your stay, be sure to visit the Augusta Museum of History, the city's oldest historical agency. After your tour, wander over to the Augusta Canal National Heritage Area. Here, you can walk, bike, canoe or kayak through the canal. The 11.5 mile tour will take you on a historic tour past natural and urban landscapes. If your trip to Augusta occurs during the week, be sure to add Sacred Heart Cultural Center to your agenda. This church, built by Jesuit priests, opened its doors in 1900 and features magnificent architectural features. The Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History also can't be missed. This museum was the former home of Miss Lucy Craft Laney, who founded both the first black kindergarten and nursing school in Augusta. Finally, finish your historic tour of Augusta by visiting the childhood home of President Woodrow Wilson. He lived in Augusta for nearly 13 years, and your can tour his boyhood home which has been restored to its' original design.
