December is especially nice with the addition of holiday decorations If you want the hustle and bustle of the General Assembly visit between January and March (Legislators do not meet everyday, but there is usually something going on at this time.)

to the Georgia State Capitol - the working center of Georgia’s state
government.
Completed in 1889, the
Georgia Capitol remains one of the most impressive buildings in the state.
Still a working government building, the Capitol's recent renovation offers
visitors a unique experience in exploring Georgia both past and present.
The Georgia Capitol Museum is
a public educational institution housed in the Capitol building under the
administration of the University of Georgia Libraries. The Museum seeks to preserve and interpret
the history of the Georgia State Capitol building itself as well as the events
that have taken place within its walls. To carry out this purpose, the Museum collects,
maintains, and exhibits significant artifacts, including historic flags and
works of art, within the Capitol. Educational and tour programs are offered
daily.
The
Georgia State Capitol is open to the public 8:00AM to 5:00PM, Monday through
Friday and is closed on weekends and holidays. Guided tours are available
Monday through Friday. All tours are free. Tour times
are subject to change so please call ahead. Student groups and other large
groups need to call (404)463-4536 to make reservations. Capitol Exploration
Guides are available from the Capitol tour desk to explore the Capitol's art
and history.
The Georgia General Assembly is in session beginning the second Monday in
January and continues for 40 working days. During this time the Capitol is busy
with activity. Visitors can watch the proceedings from the public gallery where
seats are available on a first come-first serve basis. The Capitol is located
in downtown Atlanta at the intersection of I-20 and I-75/85, near Underground
Atlanta, Atlanta City Hall, and the Five Points and Georgia State MARTA
