Fish the waters, bless the hounds and do the blues with Blind Willie McTell Welcome to Thomson-McDuffie County, land of outdoor adventure and festival fun in east-central Georgia. Surrounded by natural beauty, this historic area is classic and Southern from its 18th century historic homes to its homespun music to its small-town festivals and lends itself to a variety of recreational pursuits: Fishing, horseback riding, golfing, geocaching, hiking, hunting, camping, cattle driving, boating and picnicking and more. And with some two dozen festivals and events crowding the annual calendar, you can be sure there is always something fun going on in Thomson. Known far and wide for its many fishing, equestrian and golfing tournaments, Thomson is conveniently located near Augusta, Georgia, home of the Masters Golf Tournament, and offers the closest exit to beautiful Clarks Hill Lake. The lake is open year-round for vacationers looking for R and R, fishermen looking for stripers and hikers seeking a shady haven greened up with flora and fauna. Paying tribute to its railroading heritage, The Thomson Depot, built of granite in 1860 and later augmented with brick, is now the heart of the commercial historic district and houses the Visitor Center, Chamber of Commerce and community center. Informational brochures for the entire state as well as the local Clarks Hill area and Thomson-McDuffie attractions, festivals and events are available here. So. . . Fish the waters, bless the hounds and do the blues with Blind Willie McTell. . .
