Georgia - Georgia's Official Tourism Website

Welcome to Covington, Georgia! Residents and visitors enjoy shopping in historic downtown Covington. Whether you are in the market for a wedding gift, antiques, hardware items, florist, ladies or children’s apparel, toys, or just a special item for yourself, they can all be found “downtown”. After a day of shopping you can treat yourself to an afternoon of luxury at a wonderful day spa. Tourists enjoy using the “On Location” brochure to find downtown filming sites used in the TV shows “The Dukes of Hazzard” and “In the Heat of the Night”. Many feature films have used Covington/Newton County as their backdrop and these sites can also be found in the brochure. No matter what your taste in food, it can be satisfied “downtown”. You can choose from several deli type establishments, Italian cuisine to Louisiana fare all within walking distance of the downtown square. Recent years have brought a return of residential options to downtown. While the beautiful historic homes still stand proudly, new lofts have been erected on the downtown Square and two traditional in-town developments have emerged, Clark’s Grove and East Haven. Visitors continue to be drawn to the downtown area of Covington. The small town friendly atmosphere is refreshing and welcoming to everyone.
