Hummingbird House is a bed and breakfast home stay in a small town near Athens and the University of Georgia. The house is a circa 1818 Greek Revival located on 11 pastoral acres in a national historic district. There is a walking tour brochure available of the city as well as a driving tour of the historic county sites. Oglethorpe County is a very agricultural area and is rich in history. The local library has a Heritage section, established by Historic Oglethorpe County, Inc. that has a wealth of information for researching local history or genealogy. There is also a thriving arts community with many local artists, as well as a local arts organization, Arts! Oglethorpe, which is both a theater and visual and musical arts organization that has several shows per year. We are part of the Heritage Art Loop which has artists in residence, shops and galleries, as well as restaurants and coffee shops to complete your stay. Lexington has several antique shops, Shaking Rock Park, and the renowned Goodness Grows Nursery, a magical place for gardeners that also offers a wonderful gift shop. We are conveniently located to the shopping and dining venues of Washington, Athens, Greensboro, and Watkinsville. All of these towns are less than 30 minutes from the B&B and offer fine and casual dining and lots of shops and galleries to peruse. We are only 15 minutes from the beautiful Watson Mill Bridge State Park with its historic covered bridge. A perfect place for a picnic, to play on the rocks in the shoals or wander the nature trails - a great day trip. If you are just looking for a weekend getaway, we have lots of porches to sit on and swings to swing in. Spring and Fall are beautiful here and life is slow - come enjoy with us.
