Come and Explore FUN OF HISTORIC PROPORTIONS!
The Atlanta History Center is located on 33 acres in the heart of Atlanta’s Buckhead district and includes: one of the Southeast’s largest history museums; a research library and archives that annually serves more than 10,000 patrons; six signature exhibits: Turning Point: The American Civil War, Shaping Traditions: Folk Arts in a Changing South, Metropolitan Frotiers, Down the Fairway with Bobby Jones, Centennial Olympic Games Museum, and Phillip Trammel Shutze: Atlanta Classicist, Connoisseur, and Collector; two historic houses illustrating over a century of Atlanta’s history; a two-acre midtown campus which houses the Margaret Mitchell House - the beloved writer of the famous novel, Gone With the Wind.

This is one of those places you'd never expect to find in the middle of Buckhead. I went with the family to visit the Swan House and visit the museum, and it was a great way to spend a rainy afternoon.
The grounds of the Swan house were beautiful, and our tour guide did an admirable job making the place interesting for kids and adults alike. At the museum, the Civil War and golf exhibits were well done.
Over all, a great trip. Definitely worth the drive to Atlanta.

AHC had far more to offer than I thought. The civil war exhibit was great (much more intriguing than most others I've seen). Loved the exhibition that showcased the development of Atlanta over the last 400 years

The Civil War exhibit would only please a Yankee. The narrative is the usual politically correct spin line. North good/South bad. The man who donated all this stuff must be turning over in his grave.

For Memorial Day, the Atlanta History Center honors the contributions of veterans of World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and current conflicts.

Magic Mondays are back for another year of fun. This monthly program for toddlers and preschoolers (18 months to five years) engages our youngest visitors in activities that introduce them to history in creative ways.
