The GSU Museum showcases South Georgia's cultural and natural history, and also offers an exciting changing exhibit schedule. The gallery showcases a 26-foot Mosasaur - the "T-rex of the Sea" as well as Georgiacetus Vogtlensis, a 42 million year old whale specimen.  From October 2010 through April 2011, the Museum will showcase a special exhibit, "Archaeology of Camp Lawton," which features archaeological discoveries made by the Georgia Southern University Dept. of Sociology & Anthropology at the site of former Camp Lawton, a Civil War prisoner of war camp situated in Jenkins County, Georgia. Museum hours are Tuesday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm and weekends 2:00pm-5:00pm. Beginning Oct. 1, 2010, admission rates will be $2 per person, with children 3 & under free. Self-guided tours take 1-2 hours. Gift shop on premises.
