The Wildlife Sanctuary is a wild animal rescue, rehabilitation and release facility that conducts private tours M-F of animals it has saved, including cougars, black bears, lynx, bobcat, deer, fox, squirrels, flying squirrels, opossum, skunk, reptiles and birds of prey. Public tours on Sundays 12-4.

R & A Orchard had its beginning in 1947 when Ann Futch’s father and mother Leonard and Della Payne planted their first trees in Gilmer County . Roger and Ann Futch joined the operation in 1969, making an addition to the orchard. In 1972, R & A Orchard opened its Roadside market.

The Benton MacKaye Trail (BMT) is a footpath of nearly 300 miles (480 km) through the Appalachian mountains of the southeastern United States. It is designed for foot travel in the tradition of the Appalachian Trail (AT).

Cohuta Wilderness, in the mountains of North Georgia, features some of the most pristine forest in the state. A network of over 85 miles of trail make this an ideal backpacking, hiking, and camping destination.

Springer Mountain, the southern terminus of the 2,100-mile Appalachian Trail, and surrounding area, has a number of trails and natural features in and around this forested area. These include, the Appalachian, Benton MacKaye, and Appalachian Approach Trails, Springer Mountain, Stover, Long, Chester, and Noontootla Creeks, Three Forks, and Long Creek Falls.

The Cohutta Mountains are part of the oldest known mountains in the world. Hiking, camping and fishing available.
