Treasures Along I 20

Follow the “Treasures Along I-20 Trail” and discover the true meaning of Southern charm. Wind through picturesque towns beginning in Conyers, slightly southeast of Atlanta, where the central attraction is Olde Town Conyers, the city's historic district. Take an unhurried stroll down the streets of Olde Town – here you can browse specialty stores, enjoy unique eateries and fine dining, or discover antiques and collectibles. Continue east on the interstate to Covington, the location for the TV shows "In the Heat of the Night" and "Dukes of Hazzard." Take in the town’s beautiful square and historic district.

Follow I-20 a bit farther into Social Circle and check into the Blue Willow Inn Restaurant and Village, housed in a turn-of-the-century Greek Revival mansion. Enjoy Southern food at its finest at this restaurant, which was voted “Best Small Town Restaurant in the South” by readers of Southern Living Magazine.

On Sunday morning, check out the village – where an early 20th-century town has been recreated, complete with a 1950s-era soda fountain and shops featuring Georgia artisans – before continuing along the trail to Rutledge. Surrounded by cotton fields, Rutledge's historic district, only 1/2 block square, is virtually unchanged since the heyday of the railroad. It offers quaint shops, interesting restaurants and outdoor entertainment. If you’re hungry for lunch, stop at Yesterdays Café, a pharmacy featuring a photographic history of the city, or The Caboose, the last railroad car of Rutledge, offering deli-style sandwiches, homemade root beer, fudge and ice cream. After lunch, travel 10 miles to Madison, one of Georgia's largest National Register Historic Districts, where you can tour antebellum homes and see exquisite antiques. In the mood for a resort-style retreat? Stop next at Lake Oconee for golf or pampering at the Ritz-Carlton Lodge at Reynolds Plantation.

Finish the trail in Greensboro where shoppers can browse upscale clothiers or search for the perfect antique, all in a beautifully restored downtown where old-fashioned service isn't so old-fashioned after all!
