Romantic Rhapsody
Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains on the Chattahoochee River is one of Georgia’s most unique and romantic getaway spots – the Alpine village town of Helen and nearby Sautee. Presidential Past
Learn more about one of the past leaders of our nation on this exciting weekend getaway. Start your weekend in Warm Springs by visiting their welcome center and learn a little more about everything to see and do in this quaint rural town. Once you have your bearings, visit The Little White House, home of Franklin D. Roosevelt, and then travel 1.4 miles to the FDR Pools and Warm Springs Museum where you feel the springs from a basin in the center pool from 9am-4:45pm each day. Enjoy dinner at the Bulloch House before spending the night at the Hotel Warm Springs Bed and Breakfast, decorated with antiques and Eleanor Roosevelt Val-Kill furniture. On Sunday, travel two hours south to Andersonville, and visit the Andersonville National Historic Site, which pays tribute to all American prisoners of war. The park preserves the site of Camp Sumter and includes Andersonville National Cemetery and the National Prisoner of War Museum.

Athens
Loosen up your collar and visit Athens, Georgia! Spend Saturday wandering through the Victorian-era downtown teemed with art galleries and trendy shops. Be sure to watch for the "We Let the Dawgs Out" Public Art Exhibit comprised of three dozen larger-than-life bulldogs painted by local artists on permanent display throughout Athens. Go online or pick up a map of the bulldogs at the Athens Welcome Center and keep track of those you pass or go in search of ones you miss. Hit up Terrapin Brewery Co at 5:30pm and learn how award-winning beer is made! Tours for all ages are offered at no charge. Tasting glasses are available for $8 and entitle those age 21+ to tickets good for beer samples. After the beer tasting, head to your hotel, Foundry Park Inn & Spa, downtown Athens' only premier boutique Inn. Have dinner at your choice of two onsite eateries -- the 1829-built Hoyt House Restaurant or the Athens Steam Company Pub. No Athens visit would be complete without late night music. Enjoy live music from leading national acts at the intimate music venue, The Melting Point. Start Sunday off with a coffee from local favorite, Jittery Joes before spending the day at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia. This 313-acre preserve features five miles of trails that wind to the garden’s farthest boundaries, a stunning three-story tropical conservatory, and themed gardens showcasing native and international flora.
