Over 8 million lights make up the displays, Santa welcomes children to tell him what they want for Christmas, the Christmas Village is open for shopping, Mrs. Claus hosts story time, organ concerts play holiday favorites, and "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" takes the stage during the event. Fantasy in Lights occurs each year at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga. The site is just an hour from the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and 45 minutes from Columbus, Ga. and 90 minutes from Montgomery, Ala.
Dates & Times
This season’s event runs Nov. 18, 2016, through Jan. 7, 2017. On Nov. 16, the event will be closed to the public for a private event. Attend on Dec. 31, 2016, to enjoy New Year's Eve fireworks.
The Christmas Village opens at 4 p.m. The first Jolly Trolley departure is at 6 p.m.
There are no public transportation options to get to Callaway Gardens. The entrance is 15 minutes from Interstate 185 via exit 34 or 30.
There are four lodging options on-site at Callaway Gardens. Weekend nights fill up fast during the holiday season.
- The Lodge and Spa at Callaway Gardens, featuring 149 deluxe rooms and suites
- Mountain Creek Villas & Vacation Homes in secluded locations and available with up to four bedrooms
- Mountain Creek Inn, a family- and budget-friendly option
- The Southern Pine Cottages, offered in one- and two-bedroom suites.
Tickets are priced in three categories: value, specialty and prime nights. On value dates, admission is $21 for adults and $10.50 for children who are ages six to 12. Admission on prime nights rises to $28 for adults and $14 for children ages six to 12. New Year’s Eve, a specialty night, has the same rate as the prime nights, and event goers are recommended to get their tickets well in advance due to the event’s popularity.
Other things to do while you’re there
Callaway Gardens is near a number of Georgia’s most popular destinations. It’s across the street from F. D. Roosevelt State Park. Down the road, you can enjoy a visit to Roosevelt’s Little White House Historic Site. Up the road is the Wild Animal Safari, and a bit farther south you’ll find the National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center at Fort Benning. Just a short distance north is LaGrange, Ga., where visitors can explore Hills & Dales Estate, the historical home of the Callaway family, and the Explorations in Antiquity Center.
