Surround yourself with fall on a captivating kayak tour at George L. Smith State Park. Closer to the coast than the mountains, the park includes a picturesque covered bridge, lakeside camping, and seven miles of hiking trails. The serene waters reflect the brilliant changing leaves of spanish-moss draped cypress and tupelo as local outfitter Mill Pond Kayak guides paddlers to rarely seen areas and wildlife of the park.

Hike to gorgeous panoramic views of the valley along Fort Mountain State Park's 25+ miles of trail. The 8-mile Gahuti Trail loops the park passing near the summits of both Cohutta and Fort mountains, crossing small cascading streams as it winds through towering hardwoods. Four primitive backcountry campsites along the trail offer secluded camping to backpackers. Sheltered platform camping is also available for walk-in campers, with drinking water and fire rings, less than 400 feet from parking.
