Only 45 minutes from Valdosta and two hours from Ft. Benning and Columbus, Tifton is a south Georgia city worth exploring!

.)  Visit newborn animals and step back in time. Add a stop at the Georgia Museum of Agriculture and Historic Village to your itinerary, and you’ll enjoy the sights and sounds of a barnyard alongside farmhouses, fields, a sawmill, a turpentine still, schoolhouse, blacksmith’s shop, grist mill, Feed and Seed store, a print shop and drug store.

.)  Explore the Georgia Grown Trail: 41 and taste your way through town. Starting in Barnesville at The Rock Ranch and running through Raisin’ Cane in Valdosta, the trail winds through Tifton and showcases many of the crops and products that make Georgia sweet and savory, from peanuts to beef to honey and fruit. Be sure to stop into the Tifton Welcome Center for a free sample of Georgia peanuts, and have lunch downtown at Mi-Lady Bakery, whose grilled chicken Hawaiian sandwich was named one of the 100 plates locals love.

.)  Get your fill at the annual Rhythm & Ribs BBQ Festival. The 2016 festival is set for March 5 in Fulwood Park, and will feature professional and amateur barbecue cooking teams. While you’re there, shop in downtown Tifton and enjoy a whole day of live music.

.)  Take a self-guided tour of Tifton’s Historic District. Store the Tifton-Tift County Tourism Association’s walking tour (a PDF) in your phone or tablet, and use it as your guide as you explore the generations of history in the Southern town.
