5 Brilliant Beach Bargains for Fall

  • Tybee Island Pier

While everyone is escaping to the mountains this fall, why not escape to one of Georgia’s beaches? The weather is still mild enough to get in the water during the daytime, and cool enough to wear a light jacket at night.

It’s also the perfect time to visit the best restaurants and attractions in the area without long waits, and there are lots of great bargains. Here is a sample of a few deals along Georgia’s coast.

Savannah and Tybee Island

The recently renovated Hotel Tybee received the People's Choice Award for Best Hotel on Tybee Island, and this fall you can stay for less. Buy three nights and get the fourth night free when you call the hotel directly, or visit them online.

Tybee Island is called Savannah's beach because it’s so close to this historic city. If you need a break from the sand, spend some time in Savannah and explore her hidden treasures on a trolley tour through one of the largest National Historic Landmark Districts in the nation. The Hampton Inn & Suites in Savannah has a package deal that includes the trolley tour with rates starting at $144 a night.

If you haven’t been to Jekyll Island recently, it’s time to return, and the Holiday Inn and Resort on Jekyll Island is making it even more affordable with a host of different packages. A bed and breakfast for two starts at just $149, or theme your stay around the one-of-a-kind sea turtle hospital located on Jekyll Island. Rates start at $179 and include tickets to the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, bike rental to get there and daily breakfast, plus a little something for you at check in. There are also golf packages for the duffer in your group.

The new Westin on Jekyll Island is in the heart of all the action next to the Beach Village, where you can shop, eat and enjoy activities on the village green. Keep up with your workout routine with guided runs, or just relax in the ocean breeze with a cocktail at Harry’s @ The Reserve, the hotel's rooftop lounge overlooking the ocean. Until Dec. 31, get 10 percent off best available rates, plus no resort charge, and a $50 resort credit just by mentioning the FALL rate plan.

The Jekyll Island Club used to be a getaway for the richest tycoons in America. Now you can visit their exclusive estates and stay at the historic Jekyll Island Club. This fall, experience the grandeur for less each week during the Wednesday Night Social at the Historic Jekyll Island Club Hotel Lobby Bar. The event includes drink specials and complimentary hors d’oeuvres from 5 – 6 p.m.

St. Simons Island

Fall is a great time for group getaways, and the historic Strachan Carriage House on St. Simons Island has the perfect set up. It was even featured in Coastal Living magazine. In the summer, this gorgeous six bedroom house rents by the week, but in the fall, book as little as three nights with rates starting at $500 a night.

St. Simons has lots of great restaurants, and fall is the perfect time to enjoy them without the crowds, plus they offer some great bargains. The Georgia Sea Grill has a special First Call menu available from 6 – 6:30 p.m. every night. Enjoy lobster tacos, bison chili and more for just $5 each, as well as $3 house wines and well drinks, and $2 beers.

Tramici’s Italian restaurant is conveniently located near the Sea Island Movie theatre. Enjoy dinner and a movie for just $19. The package includes a slice of pizza, salad, beer or wine, movie ticket and popcorn.

The Inn at Sea Island is actually located on St. Simons Island and has a terrific two-for-one drink special during happy hour from 5- 7 p.m. daily.
