  • Southern Belle Farm

The warmer springtime weather brings the crops on a farm back to life. It's also when you’ll find lots of baby animals. Whether you have small kids that like to pet the bunnies or want to harvest some locally grown produce for your latest dish, these Georgia farms are ripe for a springtime visit.

Southern Belle Farms, McDonough

Southern Belle Farm is a 330-acre working farm just south of Atlanta in McDonough. This family-friendly escape has special events throughout the year and is a favorite location to pick your own fruits and veggies. Spring is perfect for strawberry picking, and summer is when you want to pick blueberries. Be sure to sample the homemade strawberry ice cream -- it's some of the best in the state.

White Oak Pastures offers farm tours by appointment. Be sure to wear boots and old clothes; this is the real deal and can sometimes be messy. If walking isn't your style, ask about a guided horseback tour. Afterward, enjoy dinner in the open-air dining pavilion located within the organic garden.

Buffalo don't just roam on the plains of America, you can also find them near Statesboro at the Georgia Buffalo Ranch and Trading Post. Take a tour of the ranch (by appointment) in a Buffalo Buggie. Wander among the bison and even feed them out of your hand. Afterward, pick up some bison burgers at the Trading Post.
