The City of Fort Oglethorpe is home to the Visitor's Center at Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, the nation's oldest and largest Civil War Park.

The historic district for Fort Oglethorpe includes The Post area on Barnhardt Circle which was an active Cavalry Post (1902 - 1946) and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Barnhardt Circle is also home to the original officer's homes, guardhouse, bandstand, and 6th Cavalry Museum. Other Post buildings include Post gym, Px, Quartermaster Building, Post Chapel and Post Theatre.

Nearby Lake Winnie Amusement Park provides loads of fun for the whole family. Lookout Mountain, just a short drive to the west, is great for hiking, hang gliding or a scenic drive along Lookout Mountain Parkway.
