In this iconic film, an underestimated housewife seeks the advice of a woman at a nursing home, who shares a story from her past. It tells of two women's friendship in 1920s Alabama. Kathy Bates, Jessica Tandy, Mary Stuart Masterson, Mary-Louise Parker, Chris O'Donnell and Cicely Tyson star in the film. The movie put the small town of Juliette on the map.

Whistle Stop Cafe
The Whistle Stop Cafe started as a general store in 1927 and was used as the cafe in the filming of the movie. It was rented out as an antique store until the filming of "Fried Green Tomatoes." After the success of the film, locals Robert and Jerie Lynn Williams opened it as a real cafe. The menu includes, of course, fried green tomatoes along with barbecue and peach cobbler.
Downtown Juliette
The town of Juliette has a cemetery used in the film. Two graves are marked with the names of Buddy Threadgood and Ruth Jamison. Another by the hickory pit that bears the reading of: Here lies Frank Bennet of Valdosta, "The secret was in the sauce." Juliette was originally called Glover, named for a local doctor. The Ocmulgee River runs through it as well as the railroad.
Southern Hollywood Film Tour
The communities south of Atlanta have been full of film productions over the last few years. So the Peachtree City-based Southern Hollywood Film Tour takes visitors to some of the most notable places, including landmarks from "Drop Dead Diva," "Joyful Noise," and "Sweet Home Alabama." It also points out locations from "Fried Green Tomatoes."
Snake Creek at Banning Mills
The location used for The River Club was none other than Snake Creek at Banning Mills in Carroll County. The hidden gorge was once home to Cherokee and Creek tribes before becoming a paper, textile, saw, and grist mill. Historic Banning Mills has hiking trails, lodging, and the world's largest zipline canopy tour.
Senoia
The small town of Senoia is most associated with its film history, especially "The Walking Dead." But it started well before the hit AMC series.
