Historic Linwood Cemetery is an outdoor museum of 19th century stone carvings. In 1828, when Columbus first began, its residents were buried exclusively in Linwood Cemetery. Some notables buried here are Dr. John S. Pemberton, inventor of Coca-Cola, and Augusta Howard, founder of Georgia's Women Suffrage Association. Two sections of Linwood are dedicated to the many men who died in Columbus hospitals during the Civil War.
