Pat Conroy, an Atlanta native and the New York Times best-selling author of "The Prince of Tides," "The Lord of Discipline" and other novels, will give a reading and attend a literary conference honoring Mary Hood, one of Georgia's most prestigious authors Oct. 4-5 at the University of North Georgia's Gainesville campus. On Oct. 4, Conroy, Hood and novelist Philip Lee Williams will give readings beginning at 7 p.m. that are free and open to the public. Registration for the conference, which goes from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 5 and includes lunch, is available at http://www.gsc.edu/about/ce/Pages/default.aspx; registration costs $49 before Sept. 23 and $55 after, and will close on Oct. 3.
All speakers at the conference are regionalist writers with roots around Atlanta; UNG is proud to host these hometown heroes.
