Located on southern tip of Georgia's Colonial Coast, this park is the perfect spot for enjoying the intracoastal waterway and maritime forest.  Campsites are surrounded by palmettos and Spanish moss-draped oaks, while cottages are set near the tidal river. A boat ramp is popular with anglers who often take to the water before sunrise. Just down the road is the ferry to famous Cumberland Island National Seashore known for secluded beaches and wild horses. 
The park's nature trail winds through forest and salt marsh, and hikers may see gopher tortoises, fiddler crabs, herons and other birds.  A nature center features fish, snakes, turtles and other animals native to coastal Georgia. Visitors may venture to the nearby ruins of a tabby mill, built around 1825 and later used as a starch factory during the Civil War.

    This camp is for all the nature nuts out there that are interested in learning more about the ecosystems that are found at Crooked River. We will hike and explore in the different habitats found on the park and learn how they are different. Bring snacks, sack lunch, and drinks. Limited space, pre-registration required. K - 8th grade.

  • Coastal Kids Nature Camp

    Coastal Kids Nature Camp

    03/28/2017 - 03/30/2017

    Soak up the fun at three different sites and participate in water activities. Students will visit Crooked River State Park, Laura S. Walker State Park and Fort King George Historic Site. A park ranger will provide transportation from Crooked River to each site and back. Ages 10-13 years old. There is limited space, and preregistration required.
