The monument was erected on the grounds of the Monitor Recreation Center on Aug. 5, 2011. It is dedicated to the city of Fitzgerald and features eight photographs and passages from influential African American ladies in the community.  Mrs. Missy Duhart (age 109), Mrs. Mary Graham (age 106), Mrs. Ola Mae Sanders (age 103), Mrs. Otha Pettigrew (age 100), Mrs. Rosa B. Harmon (age 97), Mrs. Minnie Lee Walker (age 97), Mrs. Stella Motely (age 97) and Mrs. Mable Goosier (age 100) were all guiding and influential leaders in the African American community.  Their encouragement and aspiration for the community's children lives on through the story told by our monument. All visitors will receive encouragement to further their education, to improve the quality of their lives and become all that they can hope for.
