Jug Tavern BBQ Festival
129 East Athens Street
Winder, GA 30680
The Jug Tavern BBQ Festival features a KCBS sanctioned BBQ Competition and entertainment, arts and crafts, kids activities, carnival rides, and food, beer & wine vending.
Winder has a long and rich history. It was a place for early settlement, being first occupied hundreds of years ago by Creek Indians, who called it Snodon. When white settlers established homes and farms near the village in 1793, the town was renamed to The Jug. Ten years later it became Jug Tavern. The town was renamed again in 1893 as the City of Winder in recognition of the General Manager of the Seaboard Railway, John H. Winder.
Jug Tavern Festival is in its 5th year (2014). However, it was previously known to the people of Winder as Chautauqua Festival for the previous 15 years.
