Hike along the 2-mile DeSoto Falls Trail, Fish for trout in Frogtown Creek. Area is open from late April until late November. A fee is required for camping and day use parking. This area is open 24 hours a day for campers use. Located in the Blue Ridge Ranger District. No reservations required.
GENERAL COMMENTS:
The elevation is 1,820 ft. There is an upper and lower loop. Some sites are adjacent to rhododendron-lined creek. Upper loop has a "tear-drop" interior road making it very difficult to go around loop twice with RV. Most tent (only) sites are located in the upper loop.
Two day trips from campground are worth exploring. The first is the nearby DeSoto Falls. Three cascading waterfalls are within easy walking distance from the parking area. The second is Neels Gap
located about 4 miles north on on US Rt. 19/129. Here, one can access the Appalachian Trail and visit an outfitter store which was built in stone by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the 1930s.
