At 9,049 acres, Georgia's largest state park is a hiker's and backpacker's haven. More than 40 miles of trails, including the popular 23-mile Pine Mountain Trail, wind through hardwood and pines, over creeks and past small waterfalls. Many visitors are surprised to find rolling mountains 80 miles southeast of Atlanta. 

Above King's Gap is Dowdell's Knob where President Franklin D. Roosevelt sometimes picnicked and pondered world affairs. A life-size sculpture of the president now welcomes visitors to the overlook.

Several park amenities were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression, including cottages and the Liberty Bell Swimming Pool. A wooded campground sits near the edge of a small fishing lake, and privately operated stables offer guided horseback rides.

In 1921, FDR came to this part of Georgia to swim in naturally warm springs that offered relief from polio.  Visit the nearby Little White House Historic Site in Warm Springs.

    Run like a fox in this 1 Mile and 5K run through our campground. Prizes are offered for youth only.

    Each participant who registers during Early Registration by August 28 will receive a T-shirt. Team registration and No T-shirt registration options are available. Participants must pay to sign up. Call or drop by Park Office. Registration 7 a.m., race begins at 8 a.m. Open to all ages.

    Unleash the fun with Frisbees, balls and hula-hoop jumps out on the lawn, and music. Dogs must be up to date on all shots and can be off-leash inside the pool area. Dog swimsuit contest will be held at 3:30 p.m. Only dogs are allowed in the pool on this last day that it's open. No outside food or drink. Pool concessions open. Meet at Liberty Bell Pool, Hwy 354.
