601 W Harris Street
Savannah, GA 31401

The Georgia State Railroad Museum is a family-friendly facility featuring several children's play areas. You can see, hear and smell historic steam and diesel locomotives come to life.

The Roundhouse was the Savannah repair shop for the Central of Georgia Railroad and is now the oldest and most complete antebellum railroad manufacturing and repair facility still in existence in the United States. Thirteen of the original structures, which were built beginning in 1855, are still standing. Included are a massive roundhouse and operating turntable (where the engines were turned around) and the 125-foot brick smokestack. Also, see a variety of rail cars, locomotives, and two of the oldest southern-made steam engines. Exhibits include a collection of antique machinery, 1950s print shop, H-O model train layout, and images of the Central of Georgia Railroad during the 150 years that it was Savannah's largest employer.

Tour inside two executive rail cars, take a train ride tour of the museum, and ride on a hand car. Call for operating schedules.
