Glen Mary Plantation

7342 Linton Rd.
Sparta, GA 31087

Situated on a prominence, dominating the rural landscape, Glen Mary Plantation, 1848, is reminiscent of an ancient temple. Its massive Doric columns rise proudly above the dark rusticated base. It is one of the finest examples of High Greek Revival Raised Cottage on plantation grounds in the United States and is noted for its very fine interior ornamental plasterwork and the magnificent overlay cranberry glass that surrounds the main doorway. Views of the surrounding landscape look much as they did in 1850, only today the fields are of rising pines. Glen Mary's pristine rural setting and unspoiled cultural landscape is considered a rare heritage resource in its own right. Glen Mary is also important  for its multi-layered history, which illustrates the development of America's South, reflecting the major impact of the Civil War upon the victors and the vanquished, upon white and black people from North and South. For more than 130 years of Glen Mary's 166 year history, Glen Mary was maintained under the direction of women.

We are currently under restoration construction until September 2014.
