Lake Rabun Hotel & Restaurant

Lake Rabun is one of the most beautiful lakes in the mountains of North Georgia. It’s nine mile, one thousand acre reservoir was built by Georgia Power in 1915 to hold water in reserve for hydroelectric plants to generate electricity for homes and businesses in Atlanta and north Georgia.  From Atlanta it can be reached by car in under 2 hours.

Today it sparkles and gleams and is one of the most coveted spots in the Southeast to vacation and return to the joys of full engagement with nature – her forests, streams, cascading rivers, waterfalls, quiet coves, and majestic mountains. Days here are filled with water skiing and rafting, swimming, tubing, boating, fishing, hiking and so much more.

The Lake Rabun Hotel was built in 1922 by the founder of the Lake Rabun Community, Augustus Andreae and through its continuous operation has become an institution of the lake. Recently it was lovingly restored and now features native stone waterfalls outside its entrance, original woodwork throughout, scenic decks and balconies overlooking the lake, fine art, oriental rugs, antique rhododendron furniture, comfortable queen sized beds, a new cedar tree bar and restaurant serving gourmet and special southern entrees. Nearby attractions include Tallulah Gorge, Minnehaha Falls, Whitewater rafting on the Chattooga River, acclaimed vineyards with tasting rooms, a number of public and private golf courses, the Lake Rabun marina and Lake Rabun beach, art galleries, and the small towns of Clayton, Dillard, and Mountain City for antiquing and antiques auctions.

Enjoy our cozy, intimate restaurant featuring fine art by regional painters or dine out on our deck under the hemlocks, pines, and stars. Our Menu is an eclectic mix of Southern casual and gourmet with fresh, locally grown produce hand selected by our Chef. Our features change with the seasons and the availability of fine foods. All our sauces, dressings, desserts are made in house. 

OUR CEDAR TREE BAR was imported from Southern Georgia and carefully crafted by local craftsman to blend with the natural wood and atmosphere of the hotel. Here we serve a fine selection of award winning wines from around the world. For those who prefer microbrews, we feature a good selection of those as well as the old standards.
