Beginning with the Seven Islands Indian Trail, one of the first trade routes of the Native Americans, Pioneers and Methodist Circuit Riders, as well as the Seven Islands Stage Coach Route, it connected Augusta, Mobile, New Orleans and the Natchez Trace. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, the Monticello you see now is a pleasant mixture of old and new. Monticello has kept its Southern small-town character.
