This quiet site combines the recreational fun of a state park with the educational resources of a historic site. Named after the vice president of the Confederacy and governor of Georgia, A.H. Stephens State Historic Park features a Confederate museum with one of the finest collections of Civil War artifacts in Georgia, including uniforms and documents. Stephens' home, Liberty Hall, is renovated to its 1875 style, fully furnished and open for tours. Beautiful outdoor facilities make this park a treat for both nature lovers and history buffs. The lakeside group camp is a popular location for large overnight gatherings.

    Come out and enjoy a ranger led hike on National Get Outdoors Day. As we hike the Beaver Trail, you will see a variety of flora and fauna; plus we will collect pine cones that we will be used to make an organic bird feeder, at the end of the hike. Please wear closed toe shoes and pets must be on a leash. We will meet at the BBQ Pit Shelter.

Our hike will then end at Lake Buncombe, where you will see and learn about star constellations and get a great view of the Perseid meteor shower. We will be meeting in the parking lot at Shelter #3 (also known as the BBQ pit).

Bring bug spray, work gloves and any yard tools that you would like to use, some will be provided. Bottled water and snacks will be distributed. All ages welcome.

    Haunted Evening at A.H. Stephens

    Join park staff and Friends of A.H. Stephens for a fun evening of ghoulish events. Activities include a haunted hayride, treats, movie on the lawn, Wii Dance, campfire, costume contest, and a campsite decorating contest for both RV and equestrian campers. Judging for a costume contest will be done by rangers, and the campsite contest will be judged by the public. Meet at the park office to join in on all the festivities.
