Three magnificent antebellum homes are open for tours and tell the authentic story of the American South. Barrington Hall, with Metro Atlanta's only antebellum garden, is home to the owner of the successful Roswell Mills, a leading supplier of goods to the Confederate forces; Bulloch Hall is where Mittie Bulloch married Theodore Roosevelt from New York, a union that would produce a U.S. President (Teddy Roosevelt) and their grandaughter, Eleanor, would forever change the role of women in the White House; Smith Plantation is a treasure trove of artifacts belonging to the original family, complete with outbuildings. Cell phone tours of the grounds are also available,free of charge, but plan minutes apply. Audio walking tours of Roswell's Mill Village, tell the story of the Civil War and the Lost Mill Workers of Roswell, 400 women and children who were charged with treason and sent north to uncertain fates. Throughout Roswell's 640 acre historic district are shops housed in period buildings, outstanding restaurants, arts, and theatre.
