Brochures: Sandersville Old City Cemetery Brochure

The Sandersville Old City Cemetery is the city's oldest and most scenic cemetery. Established ca.1831, the Victorian Era cemetery is the final resting place of missionaries, a Georgia governor, business, county leaders and prohibitionist. There are more than 90 identified graves of Civil War soldiers and numerous unidentified graves. The cemetery is the site of a Civil War skirmish and the site of the earliest Methodist-Episcopal Church in the city. Still present is the old road bed leading into the city, which was used by General William T. Sherman and his troops as they entered Sandersville. Browse at your leisure among the graves, above-ground tombs and the mausoleum of Georgia's Father of Prohibition. See examples of funerary art of the mid-19th century to art deco monuments of the 20th century. Visit and explore this quiet place. On the Historic Register of Historic Places.
