The Arts Council Smithgall Arts Center
Gainesville, GA 30501
The Arts Council Depot was constructed in 1914 and is the only two-story depot in northeast Georgia, In 1992 the Arts Council completed a four-year effort to purchase the 2.5-acre Depot property from CSX Transportation.
An innovative plan was developed to transform the historic train depot and unsightly rail yard in downtown Gainesville into a Central station for the Arts. Your contributions and memberships are needed for operations, programming and with your support our future plans include, an outdoor theater, artists market sculpture garden and international market place.
The Arts Council offices are located in the Depot and our current services to our affiliate arts organizations, the community and visitors to the community have been enhanced and expanded. The multi-purpose facility is available for daily rental to members for meetings, art shows and artists markets, and concerts.
