Great Oconee River Raft Race
East Dublin, GA 31027
Back in the 1970's, Dublin, Ga. boasted one of the greatest raft races ever: the Great Oconee River Raft Race! Thousands of people came to paddle with water-worthy vessels they had or created. It quickly grew to become the 2nd largest raft race in Ga., spurring legislators to pass laws for the river's protection and leading to development of Blackshear Ferry Landing.
It's back! At the Great Oconee River Raft Race, participants will paddle the Oconee River from Buckeye Park to Shady Field Landing: 16 stunning miles through the city and remote countryside, part of the original Great Oconee River Raft Race trail. For a shorter paddle, launch with the group and paddle 4.6 miles to the Brickyard Landing.
Water-worthy vessels of all kinds are welcome. Let your imagination run wild! Create or decorate the vessel of your choice with 2016's theme, Throwback to the '70's. Paddle/boat/float at your own risk. This event is kid friendly and all participants must wear personal flotation devices.
