Sapelo Island Service Weekend
1100 North South Autobahn Rd
Sapelo Island, GA 31327
Join the Georgia Conservancy and Keeping It Wild for a weekend on Sapelo Island that combines natural beauty, African-American cultural heritage and service work.
During the weekend of October 10-12, 2014, we will host our annual Sapelo Island Service Weekend with our partners at the Department of Natural Resources, UGA Marine Science Institute and Sapelo Island Cultural and Revitalization Society.
Service work will include trail maintenance, historic restoration and helping the Geechee Hog Hammock community prepare for their annual cultural festival, which brings over 1,000 people to the island each year!
When not performing service work (volunteers will work from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday), guests will enjoy historic tours of the island, including a Sapleo Island Lighthouse tour, exploration of Sapelo's pristine beaches and checking out the fantastic Reynolds Mansion.
This trip is made possible through generous funding from REI.
