Sugar Creek Plantation aka The Talmadge House
US Hwy 341
McRae, GA 31055
This historic 12-room home was built in 1937 and is the home of two former Georgia Governors: Eugene Talmadge and Herman Talmadge.
The home of a Georgia political dynasty has stepped beyond the curtain to reintroduce itself. Newspapers of the era referred to the Telfair County home as the Governor's "Sugar Creek Plantation." It is a place for groups of people to gather for business, civic or social events, catered lunches or dinners, weddings, showers or other parties.
Located on US Hwy 341, midway between Macon and the Coast, this historic home is open to those who desire to experience its charms and to luxurate in the mysterious "Mansion" that rose from Depression-era impoverishment in a world gone by.
Tours of the home are available by appointment.
