The Tree That Owns Itself

Corner of Dearing and Finley Sts.
Athens, GA 30601

Professor William H. Jackson, out of love for a great oak on his property, willed to it the tree itself and the land within eight feet of it on all sides. Although the original tree was blown down during a windstorm in 1942, a successor was grown from one of its acorns, and the tree's property rights have never been challenged.
