Nestled between Milledgeville and Augusta, two of Georgia's early capitals, Warren County has a quaint and friendly atmosphere. It is nice to know that there are still places in Georgia providing its citizens opportunities and resources to make a living, while at the same time creating a safe, enriched environment in which to raise a family or retire. Historically significant are Ogeechee River Mill (pictured), which has been recently restored and grinds corn the old-fashioned way; Fountain Campground, which still holds yearly camp meetings; Warren County Courthouse, a centerpiece in Warrenton; and many beautiful homes and plantations. Hunting and golfing are favorite activities of local residents and tourists alike. Unique shops from antiques to gifts to computer needs occupy the downtown area of Warrenton, the county seat, while hardware and grocery stores are at home on the bypass. If home cooking, barbeque, Chinese or Italian are on the menu, then Warren County has a table set for you. An active arts community (www.artscouncilofwarrencounty.org), Warren County lays claim to an annual fine art show, a community choir and theaters for both young and old, and our public library is quite proactive in literary arts. The county also boasts of having several talented artisans, including, to name only a few, cabinetmakers, painters and traditional handcraftspeople. Warren County is not just Warrenton, though. Camak, which hosts an annual Railroad Days Festival (www.camaksrailroaddays.com); Norwood, the original R.F.D. (www.city-data.com/city/Norwood-Georgia.html); Cadley; Mesena; and Jewell are wonderful townships within the county’s boundaries. Baptists and Methodists are the primary congregations in the region. On the First Saturday of each month, the Warren County Chamber of Commerce and Hometown Warrenton, Inc. sponsor community events. Among those are individual sporting contests, such as running and cycling, charity events, and family-oriented festivities. Our main annual events are Railroad Days, Sportsman’s Festival and Hometown Christmas
