Did you know that many of today's American Christmas traditions began during the Civil War era when violence, death and horrible personal losses seemed likely to overpower the chorus of "Peace on Earth?"

Learn about the history of Christmas stockings, trees and Santa Claus in this temporary exhibit which depicts a typical southern home during the hard times of the Civil War. Exhibit runs until January 31, 2013. Plan to visit on Friday, November 30, 2012 and step back in time at the Pendergrass store gallery for photos with Santa or register the little ones for a miniature Gingerbread House workshop on Saturday, December 1st which will conclude in time for the Jefferson Christmas Parade.

Holiday magic abounds at the Crawford Long Museum. For more information, call 706-367-5307.
