Civil War Sesquicentennial Exhibit

During the Civil War Sesquicentennial, the Brown House Museum will offer a rotating exhibit like none offered before. Civil War artifacts, memorabilia, personal letters and papers from Washington County families will be on display. Visitors will receive a closer and more personal view of the South.

See history unfold in the house where General Sherman spent the night and set up his headquarters when he came to Sandersville on the March to the Sea. Built in 1850, the Brown House features period furniture and prominent collections of the past and present life of Washington County.

This fascinating exhibit brings the perils of the war closer to the visitor. Uniforms, trunks, weapons and other Civil War items can be seen. Personal letters written from soldiers to their loved ones are a part of this exhibit.  Be sure and visit the Brown House Museum and see the exhibits because Sherman really did sleep here!
