Every second weekend in February, a commemorative celebration is held to honor the anniversary of the Battle of Kettle Creek at the battleground. Several events are held during the weekend in Washington and Wilkes County to highlight patriotic activities and the lifestyles of colonial ancestors.
Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at 3:00 p.m., author Dr. Christine Swager will discuss "The Battle of Kettle Creek" at the Mary Willis Library, 204 E. Liberty Street, Washington.
Events are scheduled all day Saturday, Feb. 9, including a parade, a dramatic portrayal of the Battle of Kettle Creek, a walking tour, a barbecue lunch, a memorial ceremony, and a musical performance by the Washington Little Theater Company.
Sunday, Feb. 10, a colonial worship service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 102 W. Liberty Street, Washington. A "Heroes of the Hornet's Nest Ceremony" will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Elijah Clarke State Park.
