On Oct. 27, join us for the fourth concert in the 2017 ExploreGeorgia.org Songwriter Series at the West Side Recital Hall at LaGrange College. The intimate performance features Pat Alger, Tony Arata and EG Kight.

Pat Alger, the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Famer, wrote Hal Ketchum's timeless hit "Small Town Saturday Night" about his hometown of LaGrange. From his first hit in 1980 with "First Time Love," recorded by Livingston Taylor, to the chart-toppers recorded by Garth Brooks, including "Unanswered Prayers" and "The Thunder Rolls," Alger has amassed a staggering catalogue of hits recorded by Trisha Yearwood, Don Williams, Nanci Griffith, Dolly Parton, Lyle Lovett, Kathy Mattea, Peter, Paul and Mary, Brenda Lee and more. Alger is the consummate storyteller, both through song and in the behind-the-songs stories he shares with audiences.

Shortly after arriving in Nashville more than 25 years ago, Savannah native Tony Arata performed one of his songs at the Bluebird Café, and an artist who was in the audience swore if he ever got a record deal, he wanted to record it. Not long after that gig, Garth Brooks landed a record deal, and he made Arata's "The Dance" a hit single around the world. An inductee into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Famer, Arata has had songs recorded by Patty Loveless, Emmylou Harris, Bonnie Raitt, Lee Roy Parnell, Delbert McClinton, Don Williams, Trisha Yearwood, Randy Travis, Reba McEntire and more.

Known for decades as the "Georgia Songbird," EG Kight appears at venues and festivals across America and Europe. A blues singer, songwriter and guitarist, Kight was born in Dublin, Georgia, and learned to play guitar at age five from her grandma. She has released nine albums, and her songs have been recorded by the late blues legend Koko Taylor, R&B singer Dorothy Moore, Saffire – The Uppity Blues Women, Shaun Murphy (former lead singer for Little Feat), and more. Her songs have aired on three major TV networks, and five were placed in a movie. Kight has received various music industry nominations, including six for Female Artist of the Year, one for Album of the Year, and three for Song of the Year. King Biscuit magazine wrote, "Equal measures of sensuality and grit filter through an appealing Southern drawl when this lady sings the blues."

The ExploreGeorgia.org Songwriter Series takes place in six cities across the state from August through November, promoting the state as a destination for live music and music heritage. Other participating cities include Athens, Augusta, Savannah, Rome and Valdosta.
