The Brooks County Courthouse, in Quitman, GA, is one of two functioning Civil War era courthouses left in South Georgia.

Designed by architect John Wind, paid for in Confederate dollars, constructed with bricks made from Brooks County clay, and completed in 1859, the courthouse is the county seat for all legal matters, from probate issues to criminal trials.

While the interior of the building is not open to the general public for non-legal matters (a notable exception was the filming of Spook Bridge), its 2.5 acre campus, situated in the center of Quitman, is available for self-guided walking tours.

The grounds feature several war memorials and the Lowell Renfroe Memorial Gazebo, which is often used as a performance venue.

On the third Saturday of October, the Courthouse grounds hosts the Annual Skillet Festival, Brooks County's signature event.

Brooks County invites you to explore this rare example of Southern heritage.
