John Culver: Worlds Imagined

Dates : 1/11/18 - 3/3/18
Averitt Center for the Arts

Statesboro, GA 30458

Bringing together his interests in history, science and science fiction, John's drawings display images derived from the historical past as well as projections about the distant future. He particularly admires Leonardo da Vinci's fusion of art and science – his fifteenth century drawings that must have seemed like science fiction. John has only a grade school education and is academically untrained; he believes that God works through him to produce these visionary works. His drawings reveal an unexpected connection where time and space flow freely back and forth. An example would be his drawings that envision the pyramid of his ancient ancestors as epicenters of an unseen energy that powers futuristic spacecraft with magnetized nuclear energy. Each piece has a personal and a fascinating narrative. Culver's work has been seen in the American Folk Museum, NY and has been collected by the Smithsonian Institution.
