Mary Margaret Duncan Jones' vibrant patterned work appears on the surface to be happily carefree but under the joyful lyricism of line and color a darker humor is apparent. Her abstract compositions frequently set linear boundaries, many with warning signs, to contain the images within. These images are often not content to be bounded. Her work has a personal, symbolic, psychologically driven narrative much like Arshille Gorky's abstract expressionism. Jones studied at Furman University and at Georgia Southern. Her work has been exhibited throughout the Southeast, particularly in central South Carolina where she now resides and paints.
