Academy of St Martin in the Fields, the orchestra that years ago captivated audiences around the world with its playing in the movie "Amadeus" and universally acclaimed as one of the finest chamber orchestras in the world, is renowned for its polished, refined sound, rooted in outstanding musicianship. Formed from a group of leading London musicians, and working without a conductor, the orchestra gave its first performance in its namesake church in November 1959.
Today, it undertakes as many as 15 tours each season, performing some 100 concerts around the world. At its stop in Columbus, the orchestra will perform Britten's Variations on a Theme of Frank Bridge, Haydn's Farewell Symphony, and two concertos: Bach's First Piano Concerto, with pianist Inon Barnaton, and Haydn's Cello Concerto in C, with cellist Alisa Weilerstein.
