Operated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the hatchery provides environmental education and public outreach programs to visitors, school groups and other groups. The programs are designed to promote conservation ethics and develop a greater outreach for recreational fishing opportunities. Education center, visitor kiosk, and opportunity to view the fish in various stages of production. U.S. Forest Service campgrounds are located above and below the hatchery. Four major fishing events are held annually at no cost to participants: Special Kids Fishing Rodeo in May, which is open to children with severe disabilities (limited pre-registration required); Veterans Appreciation Fishing Rodeo in May, which is open to all U.S. military veterans and current active duty; Seniors Fishing Rodeo in June, which is open to ages 55 and older; and Family Fishing Festival in June, which is open to youth ages 16 and under.
