Learn about Cherokee County's past from before the time of the Cherokee Indians through the 21st century. The museum and visitors center is located in the historic marble courthouse, where the renovated jail and courtroom are also open. The courthouse and museum are located in downtown Canton's Historic District, which has numerous shops, parks and restaurants.

    The Cherokee County History Museum is hosting the temporary exhibit Digging for Treasure: A History of Mining in Cherokee County, from May 20 until September 26, 2015. The exhibit explores the many types of mining which have occurred in the county, beginning with the Gold Rush of 1829.
