The Georgia Symphony Orchestra & Chorus will perform the works of J.S. Bach and Ralph Vaughan Williams at the Monastery of the Holy Spirit on May 5, 2013, at 3:30 p.m. This marks the Orchestra and Chorus' first appearance in the Gothic Church at the Monastery with its grand accoustics.
The GSO Chorus ends its season with this program of works and Ralph Vaughan Williams Bach's Joyful Cantata No, 11 (1735), sometimes know as the Ascension Oratorio. This piece will be contrasted with Vaughan Williams' Five Mystical Songs (1911), which sets poems by George Herbert from his 1633 collection "The Temple:Sacred Poems" in this work for strings, baritone and chorus. Both pieces are lovely works celebrating the season of Easter.
